Do you think the Muscat festival has benefits the economy of Oman? and if so, how?


Muscat festival is one of the economic engine that has a lot of benefits in Oman`s economy. First, it has provided job opportunities for more than 1500 jobs for the Omani youth to the wide events. It offers seasonal jobs which are not permanently because they are just available during the festival days. However it can solve crisis.  Also the jobs give the young people the skills and capabilities in the organization of such events.

Second, the economic return of the festival has increased the revenues of many of various productive sectors, For example: hotels, restaurants shops, flight company, the tourism industries, the media, taxi owners or even the small traders who get benefits during the period of the festival where they sell their material. Also, the economic movement are improving and become very active like selling and buying.  A simple example of that is the owners of `almchakik` which their daily income reach 800 R.O. Another example of the tourism industries who gain from the festival what is equal to what it gain in the entire year, such as the United Company for Tourism who achieved 100 thousand riyals and interest 6%  just during the festival

     Another point is, a foreign and domestic tourism has increased in the festival. Whereas the Muscat Festival attract many visitors from within Oman or from the Gulf states or from foreign countries. This in itself is a kind of promotion for Oman tourism. And this in turn stimulated the boom of tourism hotel sector, where rates have risen the number of inmates in some hotels in Muscat Governorate and recorded significant increases ranged between 80% and 100%. The ratio of the number of guests in hotels before starting the festival was between 10% to 15% which mean less than the number during the festival period. In this context, and which confirms this speech, said Munir bin Mohammed Baloch Sales Manager Radisson Blu Hotel Muscat: The ratio of the number of inmates reached 100% ,and this percentage was less than 5% to 10% before the start of the festival.  Also, Said Naji Abi Farah, director of marketing Bjuldn Tulip Seeb Muscat: The percentage of the number of hotel guests reached so far about 80%, representing 20% ​​of inmates either foreign Arabs comprise 60%. Noting that the percentage of inmates before the festival ranged between 68% and 70%. Another example, Horjohnson Hotel Leith, who confirmed at the same time that Muscat Festival had a significant impact on the rise in hotel occupancy rate to 85%
